Module 2

Mental performance diagnostics

Measure what otherwise stays a gut feeling.

You measure jump height, throwing speed and running distance, but mentally it usually stays a gut feeling. The diagnostics capture ten performance-relevant dimensions: seven individual ones such as pressure resistance, error recovery and decision making, plus three team dimensions like communication, trust and cohesion. The analysis takes about twelve minutes per player and gives you a picture you can act on in training.

What's included

Everything this module covers, at a glance.

  • Ten dimensions: seven individual performance factors plus three team factors
  • Team heatmap covering every player and every dimension, outliers jump out immediately
  • Strength profiles per unit: backcourt, wings, pivot, defence, goal
  • Re-assessments every 6 to 8 weeks make development measurable instead of claimed
  • Benchmark comparisons against other teams at the same league level
  • Individual development curves per player across the whole season

Recommended actions for you as a coach

Concrete: what you see in the data and what you do about it.

1

Set the training focus

What you see

The heatmap shows pressure resistance in the backcourt at 54.

What you do

Put the matchday routine on the final ten minutes and train shooting decisions under time pressure instead of prescribing more mental training in general.

2

Take the time-out earlier

What you see

Two players measurably drop off after two goals conceded in a row.

What you do

It can make sense to call the time-out on the second goal conceded in a row and talk briefly with both, before the opponent's run builds.

3

Prove the progress

What you see

The team's error recovery rises by 12 points over eight weeks.

What you do

Show the curve in the season review with the board and the parents and keep the measure that triggered the rise.

4

Stabilise the locker room early

What you see

Team trust and communication drop across two consecutive measurements.

What you do

Run a team task with clearly assigned roles and hold one-on-ones with the three players whose scores fall the most.

Development curves at player level

Pressure resistance across six measurement points in a season.

Player A

Rises from 54 to 78. The work on the closing phase is paying off.

Increase the challenge: practise situations from the final ten minutes and seven-metres with him in training.

Player B

Falls from 61 to 56 and has stagnated for three measurements.

Switch his exercise plan to error recovery and hold a one-on-one in two weeks about his load outside the hall.
